New Crib and Thoughts on Pets

I have been searching for a crib for a couple of months now. Initially I thought we might co-sleep for a while, not knowing how long. Then I thought we might move into a different place, so I was just waiting. I finally decided that we'd need a regular-size crib eventually, because he would be in one into his toddler years.

I searched on Craigslist for free cribs, and found a couple, but I only got one. It was missing hardware, and turned out to be impossible to put together. Plus, the company was in existence anymore, and I was concerned about safety.

Finally I happened on a listing for the exact model of crib I wanted, in the color I wanted, with a mattress included. All for $50. They had been used for just six months and were in great condition. Today I looked up how much the package would be new. About $140 for the crib and $120 for the mattress. Not bad!

First time in the crib

Also, after having Luke, I have a whole new perspective on pets. They're like your children, but only before you have children. After you have a child, the pet gets put on the back-burner. But! Not to your child! The child loves the pet! So the cycle continues and the pet must stay.

Rich and I used to love George Lubbers like we currently love Luke. As soon as we got home, it was "Hi George!" and "How was your day, George?" We would take George out and play with him and laugh at all the funny things he said. Now we're like, "If that bird does not stop screaming soon, I am going to break something..." But Luke thinks GL is just awesome. And if Luke could remember things, he we be very upset if we got rid of GL. That's my hypothesis, at least.

Now I understand why parents are loathe to get pets, yet children beg for them. The parent is like, "Do I really need one more thing in my life to annoy me?" But the child cherishes the pet as its own.

That picture reminded me of Back to the Future when Marty goes back to the 50's and sees his future-jailbird uncle in the crib and says, "Hope you get used to these bars, kid."

The crib looks quite nice! I'm so happy you found one just like you wanted for such a good price. Lukie looks quite angelic in it. Has he taken to it well?

I hear ya on the pet thing. Just don't be like my dad and go secretly dumping cats at the lake and let your child believe they ran away! ;) hehe
