Hey everybody! Last week Em started her intensive bar prep classes, which will last for two months and culminate with the DC Bar Exam on July 29-30. We had been a bit apprehensive about this June/July time period, as we knew it was really going to be the first time that Luke was going to be separated from his Mom for a long and sustained period. Also, the amount of work required to prepare for the Bar is just obscene.
Anyway, Em's daily schedule is the following: She has review classes from 9 AM to 1 PM at the GWU Law School, and then stays there and studies until the end of the work day when I pick her up. Initially, she was just studying for maybe 3 hours in the afternoon, but we quickly learned that wasn't going to cut it. Anyway, so after I pick her up, we go home and play with the Lukester, have dinner, do the whole bedtime routine for the Lukie B (in bed by 8 PM), and then Em studies another two hours while I read my Hitler book. It's the best book on Hitler I've ever read, by the way. Here's a
link. I'm trying not to watch as much TV in June/July, unless it's an NBA final. :-)
So obviously, someone has to watch Luke from about 8 AM to 6 PM, M-F, which is an exhausting and full-time job. We knew we had to get off to a good start, so we opted for the best: Aunt Ashlee (known as An'ash). Ash took one week of vacation, which was just such an incredible sacrifice, because there is nothing relaxing about watching Luke! She did an
incredible job, and even helped around the house with cleaning, laundry, cooking, etc. We were so blessed. It was just so great to have an extra person to help with everything!
Ash wrote an entry on her blog about her experiences, which is pretty witty. Click
here to read about it. There are lots of pics and videos of Luke as well.
On Sunday night, Missy (Grandmother) arrived from MA and she will be watching Luke for the better part of the next three weeks, for which we are so grateful.
In closing, I'm really proud of Em for being so disciplined with her time; thankful to Ash for her servant heart; and super proud of Luke for being a good boy while Mom and Dad were out drinking I mean studying for the bar.
